Palangal is a musical adaptation of a political satire written by Dr. K. Ayyappa Panniker and depicts the events that surround the proposed construction of a bridge that can also be seen as a metaphor for human relationships. The nexus of the politician, contractor and the thug is interested only in ensuring their own maximum profit.  Without remorse, they sacrifice the bridge for the sake of their own interest and in the bargain, destroy the dreams and livelihood of the poor villagers.
