Kanchan contests the elections for the unreserved seat of Gram Panchayat against Savshi, a shrewd, snobbish and corrupt Sar Panch, who is contesting for his second term. Even though she has to face a lot of problems because she is a woman, Kanchan wins the elections. Supported by her husband and inspired by the strength and courage of women before her, she decides to develop her village and make it a model for others. With time she gains immense popularity because of her good work and honesty. The power hungry politicians of the village plot and raise a vote of no-confidence against her, but the people reject it and confirm their faith in Kanchan. This story of women’s empowerment is told by Ranglo-Rangli, a famous character of Gujarati folk theatre. |
